(Foundation Phase and Intermediate School)
As a local school in a global context, we celebrate our long history by striving to achieve a balance of Love, Excellence and Leadership. Our approach to teaching and learning is responsive to international best practice and attuned to the needs of the children in our care through Biblical lesson integration.
Richards Bay Christian School’s holistic curriculum encourages children to look after their bodies, minds and environment. Emphasis is placed on creative thinking, intellectual curiosity and team work.
We encourage students’ academic and spiritual growth every step of the way on their educational journey of discovering their personal destinies.
The curriculum is based on a strong Christian faith and value system. It is our intention to foster creative and resourceful students who enjoy doing their best, understand the value of service, and who are aware of the urgent need to care for our environment. RBCS students are encouraged to think about the world and the work they will do in it, from a Biblical perspective to desire to make a difference, in time, and to relate to others with compassion and grace.
As an IEB school, RBCS strives to offer a high quality of education. English is taught as the Home Language, with Afrikaans and IsiZulu offered as a choice of First Additional Language from grade 4.
At the start of each academic year, students get to choose which leadership portfolio they would like to serve in for the year. Student leadership development is all about equipping leaders of God’s Kingdom for whatever capacity they choose to use by enhancing student involvement. We do this through leadership opportunities and experiences for grade 4-7 students that allow them to apply skills in the context of interest areas, gifts and talents.
Key functions challenge leaders at every level of experience to make their impact life-changing:
Mentoring: Student groups comprising a mix of grade levels help one another to understand, internalize, and practice core values.
Leading group discussion: Facilitate ‘Discovery Bible Study’ to develop Biblical worldview.
Appreciate diversity: Learning to listen for difference of opinion, communicate effectively, and find integrative solutions.
Team Collaboration: Strengthen others, making each person feel capable.
Creating a Culture of Innovation: Encourage new and creative idea sharing.
Contribute to RBCS community outreach projects: Educational development of rural daycares and training of caregivers.
“Christian Innovation is when thinking Christians purposefully align ideas and actions with God’s purposes and methods to affect change creatively (Oster, 2011).
